The Rundown: With Gotham seemingly safe, Batman finds himself offered a new start by an old enemy.
Gotham City is safe and with that relative safety, Bruce and Tim go on vacation. Basking in the luxury of an island retreat, Bruce gets an unexpected visit from Talia who invites him to dinner with her father, an aging and seemingly dying Ras Al Ghul. A dinner that will lead to an unexpected and tempting offer for the Dark Knight.
At the same time, a lone figure breaks out of the sewers of Gotham and goes looking for help from the persistent pursuers on her tail. As she fights to escape, her journey brings her to some unexpected help in the form of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.
The Story: I love the vibe and slow burn of this issue. Burnett and Dini do a masterful job of showing both sides of the story and infusing them with fantastic levels of tension throughout. Bruce’s story has some great moments for the character as well as a lighter tone that is engaging to fans of the character. The B story in Gotham is dark and intriguing and leads to a fantastic reveal that I cannot wait to see play out.
The Art: Templeton delivers fantastic art that expands and evolves the world of these characters. I loved the visual contrast between Bruce’s vacation spot and the gritty reality of Gotham.
