The Rundown: Lex Luthor teams with the Joker to discover a dark device that can change the world.
Batman and Superman team up in Gotham to take down the Clown Prince of Crime aka The Joker. After bringing him to Arkham, he gets an unexpected rescue from Lex Luthor who has discovered something that only a madman can decipher. After teaming with Joker, the pair make their way to a hidden and strange area of Metropolis and the discovery of a dangerous power that can give them everything they could ever want. When Lex discovers what Joker wants to do to the world, he makes a dangerous decision.
The second story finds Superman being pulled from the menagerie in his fortress and transported to the Bat Cave where Batman and Robin find themselves fighting the various objects collected within the structure. As the heroes find a way to stop the attack, both Batman and Superman call out to Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk to answer for it.
The Story: An entertaining story from Waid that does a great job of centering the villains in a story that explores how different they are in both personality and goal. The absence of Superman and Batman in the story is perfect and gives the reader a chance to live in the drama and suspense of this tense partnership. The second story delivers great action and an intriguing setup to a bigger arc to come.
The Art: Pugh delivers some beautiful art in the issue. The issue focuses on the interactions between Luthor and Joker so all of the visuals do a fantastic job of showcasing the emotions of the moments between them including the tension and hatred. Mora’s art is beautifully detailed and filled with awesome imagery and action.
