The Rundown: The Dark Knight and the Hellspawn find themselves pitted against each other for the benefit of dark third parties.
Two men forged in violence and personal tragedy have been targeted by shadowy forces to confront each other in a fight to the death. For Al Simmons, he has been told that the key to returning his wife’s soul depends on killing the Batman of Gotham City. Bruce has been lured to the alley where his parents died with a mystery involving that night and something his mother carried with her.
The two clash in the alley and discover that they are pawns of not only the Court of Owls, but something darker. Entities that will force them to work together to fight a new and more deadly Talon paving the way for a bigger threat to be unleashed on two worlds.
The Story: A thrilling, dark adventure with great stakes from McFarlane. There’s a fantastic tone to the story and I love the intensity within every element of the story. I love the immediacy of the story as well as the complicated relationship between Spawn and Batman. The tension between the two characters is intense and I cannot wait to see where this story goes next based on its awesome cliffhanger ending.
The Art: Greg Capullo delivers beautifully detailed art on every page of the comic. The art brilliantly showcases the characters as well as shows blistering and visually engaging fights and action.
