The Rundown: Batman’s investigation into the mysterious attacks on Gotham’s villains leads him to the Joker.
Batman and Alfred theorize on the remaining suspects of their case. Later, Batman is led to the Botanical Gardens after receiving word of the Joker’s latest scheme. After a daring rescue, Batman and the Joker have a brief confrontation. Then, and ensuing game of cat and mouse, initiated by the Joker, leads to a disturbing and violent situation.
The Story: I really like how this series focuses on Batman’s detective work. Although he uses his connections to obtain information on his suspects, Batman heavily relies on his critical thinking abilities to deduce his subjects movements. The situation with the Joker emphasizes that. I am looking forward to discovering the actual violent perpetrator of this story, and what their motives are. It will be interesting to see what tactics Batman ultimately uses to solve this case.
The Art: The artwork in this issue perfectly captures the tone of the story. Sharp’s hyper-realistic drawings and intense color work are emotionally engaging. As the story plays out, the horror vibes get increasingly stronger, and the illustrations perfectly reflect that. In terms of visual appeal, this episode will leave you breathless.
