The Rundown: Batman and Joker continue their hunt for Superman, but their journey is going to unveil some disturbing truths.
Bruce and Joker are traveling across the wastelands of America avoiding perils including a Speed Force storm that contains a tragic secret. Their journey will take them to spots of humanity’s last stand with the forces of the planet itself and Bruce must reconcile that there is little he can do help.
As their journey takes them to where Bruce believes Clark might be hiding, they soon discover that an unexpected presence has taken over the property. When Omega’s forces track them down, Batman will find himself fleeing back to Gotham where he finds an unexpected and familiar face waiting.
The Story: There is so much about this issue that dazzles both visually and emotionally. Scott Snyder grabs the reader with this story and takes you on a ride that is both tragic and glorious. I continue to be impressed with how dense and engaging this story is. Snyder has set up so many great moments and plot points in the first issue that are bearing fruit in this one. I am completely invested in this story and all of the characters and moments that are introduced just reinforce that this world is different than anything we’ve seen before and that makes the story more exciting and unpredictable.
The moments between Bruce and Lex where we learn about what happened to Superman are amazing and I was riveted by the Bruce/Diana moments as well. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next and what other reveals Snyder will spring on the reader.
The Art: Greg Capullo’s art is incomparable. His style and attention to detail are fantastic and you can get lost in how beautiful the panels are. I’ve gone back over moments several times because they were so visually stunning.
