The Rundown: Selina is confronted by her past with Joker as her future self looks to an old acquaintance for help.
In the past, Joker is in the process of killing Andrea in front of the family he is holding hostage. When Batman and Catwoman arrive, Joker reveals Andrea’s dark secret to the assembled before revealing that he has placed something under the tree that will liven up the holiday season. As Selina deals with her relationship with both Joker and Batman, Bruce talks to Alfred about his conflicted emotions. Emotions that have him falling for someone he cannot truly trust.
In the present, Selina goes to see Penguin after she escapes from custody. After a brutal back and forth, she convinces him to help her get out of Gotham. With her daughter and the GCPD closing all exits out of the city while they hunt for her, Selina takes some time to reminisce with Penguin before her ride arrives, but she quickly discovers that there is truly no honor among thieves.
The Story: Tom King continues to craft a complicated and intriguing story in this issue. The fraught relationships between these characters both in the past and present continue to be an engaging read. It’s interesting seeing Selina’s relationships with both Penguin and Joker unfold and how they respond to each other outside the presence of Batman. The plot continues to be really interesting and dangerous in ways that keep me interested in the story itself.
The Art: Sharp delivers some interesting visuals in this issue. There are some over exaggerated visual moments that are disturbing and perfectly fit with the style and aesthetic of the story.
