The Rundown: Selina Kyle confronts the people in her life who are forcing her to choose.
Joker continues to verbally challenge Selina on who she really is as bodies are strewn around them. The scene then shifts to an older Selina talking to her daughter and when she tries to bring her in, she shows her that she still has claws. As she challenges the people who think they know who she is, Selina confronts the truth about herself. At the same time, in two different times, she attempts to tell the people she’s facing the truth about not only who she is, but who they are as well.
As she stands ready to end the Joker, she reveals that she knows the darkest secret that he has. A secret he doesn’t want anyone, especially Batman to discover and Selina must decide if killing him is worth it. In the future, she confronts her daughter with another truth. The truth behind why she had to kill the Joker.
The Story: King does a brilliant job of shifting this story through different time periods, ramping up the tension and mystery as well as giving Selina great character evolution and agency. I love how each moment in each time period culminates in someone’s misunderstanding of who Selina is and how she reveals that truth in her own unique way. I love where the story goes with the reveals and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Clay Mann delivers some amazing visuals throughout this issue. I love the way each time period takes on a different tone and the details in the characters is amazing.
