The Rundown: Batman confronts his clone and makes some major changes in his life.
In the wake of Zur’s defeat, Batman finds himself confronting the cloned version of himself that Zur was using as his new Robin. After bringing the scared and angry young man back to his home, he deals with the reality of the clone not only remembering who and what he is, but also the breakdown of his DNA.
As Damian searches for Zur’s body, Bruce deals with the rapidly aging clone who begins to remind him of the life he lives, the person he is and the people in his life that matter. Reminders that make Bruce make some major changes for himself, his family and ultimately, Gotham itself.
The Story: Since the Bruce clone was introduced in this storyline, I wondered how the character would be handled in subsequent stories and worried about it becoming an annoying addition to the character’s canon. Zdarsky handles the character beautifully in this story and manages to craft a bittersweet story within it that continues Bruce’s evolution in the wake of Zur by having him face himself in interesting ways that bring him closer to the people in his life. It also creates some interesting moments that I want to see explored going forward and new situations that make me excited to explore this world more.
The Art: Bandini and Lieber create some beautiful art in the issue. The character designs are great and I love that the story takes place in the light to signify the changes the character is making.
