The Rundown: Failsafe is in control of Gotham and is actively hunting down Batman.
With Failsafe in control of Gotham City, violent crime is on the rise because the machine is more interested in finding Batman instead of keeping people safe. He is even using Batman’s family to scan the world for him while capturing or turning away any hero that tries to rescue them.
At the same time, Batman confides in Aquaman knowing that Failsafe will be coming for him next. When it does, Batman is already gone and setting up a way to stop the machine before it tries to kill him again. After a blistering fight at the Watchtower, Batman manages to buy himself some time, but it is quickly running out.
The Story: Zdarsky delivers some awesome action throughout the issue. Not only is there great tension, but the story manages to beautifully ramp up tension throughout. Every moment Batman spent in Atlantis, I wondered when it was going to get attacked and was not disappointed in the revelation. I continue to be impressed with the precision and pacing of this arc and cannot wait for the next issue.
The Art: Jimenez brilliantly captures the tension, darkness and action on every page of this issue. The visuals are thrilling from start to finish and wonderfully complement the story.
