The Rundown: Batman returns to Badhnisia because of reports of a recent enemy’s return emerge.
A couple’s stroll through the streets of Badhnisia will bring them face to face with Abyss. With the increase in sightings of the killer, Batman returns to the country to track him down. What he discovers is something completely unexpected.
A familiar face has taken the mantle of Abyss and is using the vigilante’s means to get personal justice. Justice that Batman will help secure while also giving an ally a chance to choose their own future with the choices they make.
The Story: Williamson does a great job of wrapping up the Abyss storyline and revisiting an interesting character on a personal journey. I liked seeing Batman in the position of mentor and how he used his personal journey as a way of teaching a lesson. What really made the story work was having Batman hold back and let the new Abyss make their own decision when the time came. A really good story that showcases the character really well.
The Art: Porter and Fornes deliver some great art throughout the issue. The style is beautiful with great character designs and a gritty, dark feel to the environments.
