The Rundown: Batman must battle the Scarecrow within his own mind before he can stop him from destroying the city.
While a corrupted Oracle delivers lies to the people in order to increase their fear, Batman and his allies are on the hunt for the missing Peacekeeper One. In order to find a way to help the city, Batman goes to meet with Montoya in order to tell her the truth about Saint, the Mayor and the Peacekeeper program. Batman has another problem that needs to be dealt with and he needs Ghost-Maker to enter his mind to help him purge whatever Scarecrow has implanted into his mind.
Inside Bruce’s mind, the two battle the Scarecrow’s influence over Bruce and Ghost-Maker decides to show him something that might be a clue to the battle they are about to face. Something that hides in the memory of Batman’s new ally and his connection with the Scarecrow himself.
The Story: James Tynion IV does a great job of bringing this arc together in some interesting ways. The revelation about Ghost-Maker is well done and adds some interesting layers to the story. Batman’s meeting with Montoya is also great and shows the evolution of their relationship. The story takes intriguing twists and turns, but the pace is a little slow given the subject matter. Still, a really interesting read that continues to build on the tension of the arc throughout.
The Art: Jimenez delivers some beautiful imagery. I really enjoyed the scenes with Batman and Montoya where the character seemed to be connected directly to the shadows in the room.
