The Rundown: Steve Rogers faces a dark and dangerous future that needs Captain America.
In the future, Steve Rogers lives in a dystopian world where there are no heroes and the legacy of their struggles is almost forgotten. Without the super soldier serum, the ravages of time continue to take their toll, but Steve decides to fight back in a small way against misinformation regarding his greatest enemy.
After a fierce debate with the son of an old friend, Steve finds himself being drawn into an underground war led by Luke Cage and a new generation of Defenders. A war that will pit him against the son of Tony Stark and the tarnished legacy of the Avengers.
The Story: Dystopian future stories in comics are becoming more and more cliché every year. I personally don’t know how many more “Last Avengers” storylines I can either read or keep track of, but Zdarsky delivers an entertaining story in this first issue. There are some relevant story elements that the reader will be familiar with and the world is interesting. I just hope the next issue has something new and unique in its narrative to keep me engaged with this dark world.
The Art: Acuna deliver some fantastic art in the issue. The visuals are brilliantly detailed and perfectly capture the dark tone of the story and its future setting.
