The Rundown: Thor must deal with the revelations about his past while fighting villains who want to destroy it.
Tony Stark makes a trip to Asgard to talk with Thor about their mutual family issues. A subject that he can relate too more recently and wants to offer his fellow Avenger a friendly ear. Unfortunately, Thor is not in the mood to listen. Instead, he laments the fact that the mother he thought he knew has yet to answer him and he does feel some kind of connection to the Phoenix. Tony suggests Thor talk with Echo, but the god of thunder is uninterested.
To make things worse, Echo comes to Asgard to speak with Thor and is stopped by Sif who warns her that she is not welcome. As Sif prepares to repel Maya by force, something freezes everything in Asgard except for Tony and Thor. When villains from the megaverse attack the pair, Tony learns of the bigger threat facing Earth. As the heroes battle otherworldly threats, Maya and Thor will have to find a way to work together or die together.
The Story: The new issue of Avengers continues some of the interesting story arcs that have happened recently including revelations about Thor’s true parentage, Maya’s connection to the Phoenix force and Tony’s trip to the past. Aaron does a great job of bringing these story elements together into a plot that is both emotionally interesting and engaging. The fight with the megaverse villains is well done plot wise and Aaron gives them some truly menacing moments.
The Art: Frigeri delivers some powerful art that is filled with beautiful detail throughout. The characters look amazing and the action is thrilling and gorgeously detailed.
