The Rundown: The fight to save She-Hulk continues as Jennifer targets Atlantis.
Namor faces a challenge from his people who are weary of his wars against the surface and subsequent failures. As he tries to reassure the people of Atlantis that they are poised for victory, She-Hulk arrives on the ocean floor. At the same time, the Winter Guard continues its covert attack on Atlantis using Jennifer’s attack as a means of destabilizing Namor’s rule. Their plans include detonating a gamma bomb in the city itself. Gorilla Man intercepts the group and attempts to stop the bombing, but finds the Red Widow a tough foe to stop.
When Jen rushes off in the middle of the fight, no one but a select few know that Jennifer is not as helpless or as mind controlled as she wanted the Winter Guard to believe. As the Avengers move in to protect the people of Atlantis, She-Hulk moves in to stop the gamma bomb and finds herself squaring off with the Red Widow who has a secret of her own that she is ready to reveal.
The Story: Part action adventure, part political thriller, Aaron crafts an entertaining and surprising story in this issue. The plot is filled with twists and reveals that are both unexpected and welcome and the narration gives great insight into the situation as well as Jennifer’s part in the events. It does a great job of taking away the notion that she was a passive part of the plans against her and gives her some interesting and creative depth.
The Art: Garron and Flaviano deliver some great action throughout the pages of this issue. The art is frenetic and filled with energy. Energy that captures the tone and pace of the story perfectly.
