The Rundown: The battle for control of the Phoenix Force continues as Namor makes his play for control.
The battle for the Phoenix Force continues as Namor takes on Echo for control beneath the waves. While the other combatants have their trepidations about taking on allies in a fight to the death, Namor has no such qualms and is willing to kill anyone for the power he believes is his destiny to control. Captain America has other plans and his plan with T’Challa calls on them to train one of the champions to be the Phoenix both sides needs.
At the same time, the heroes outside of the contest fight to free their allies. A plan that will require some of their most powerful to confront the Phoenix directly while their smartest work on a way to free the heroes and trap the creature. All of this is directed by Thor, who has a strong desire to stop the creature. A desire that will be tested when Phoenix reveals a devastating secret.
The Story: Jason Aaron delivers great story and action in this issue. The plot does a brilliant job of showcasing who these characters are. I loved the moments between Cap and Shang-Chi and how ambitious the plan is. What makes the story even better is that the events set up by Aaron in previous arcs come to a brilliant and perfectly executed cliffhanger ending.
The Art: Luca Maresca delivers some powerful, beautiful and gorgeously detailed art in this issue. The action is breathtaking and the characters look amazing.
