A distraught Dracula looks over the final remnants of his vanished kingdom as the Red Widow and the Winter Guard force the vampire to spill his guts about everything he’s been a party to in the last 500 years including everyone who owes him or solicited him.
His reward is to be exiled to one of the most inhospitable areas of the country to die alone.
At the same time, the prison is being overrun by the inmates who have been turned into vampires and the Avengers arrive to stop the attack. As the Avengers fight off the vampires, Blade decides to stop fighting by their rules and do what he knows needs to be done. He knows that a cure is a pipe dream and he enlists lethal force to stop the Shadow Colonel once and for all.
In the aftermath of the battle, the Avenger’s victory might cost them more than they can imagine as Robbie finds himself dealing with the spirit of vengeance and Dracula proves to be more cunning than anyone thought.
Jason Aaron brings this current arc to a clever and entertaining conclusion. As strange a story as this was for this particular team, it featured some great storytelling and a sublimely clever interpretation of Dracula. The twist at the end of the issue was inspired and I look forward to seeing what happens next with this part of the story and the characters.
David Marquez delivers some amazing art throughout this issue. Everything from the character details to the action looks fantastic.
