The Rundown: Jackson Hyde and his family fight to save Meera from their enemies.
In Xebel, guards from Atlantis rush to the capital only to discover something chaotic. Elsewhere, Jackson and his family engage in battle in an attempt to rescue Meera and stop Meeka’s deadly plan. When someone important is gravely injured, Jackson unleashes his powers. Afterwards, Arthur arrives, and Jackson leaves to assist another. Then, the conference continues with a speech from Meera.
Later, at The Well, Arthur and Jackson have a conversation. Jackson then takes on the mantle of Aquaman. Next, at the Atlan Memorial Medical Center, a grief-stricken Jackson has a difficult conversation with his older sister. Finally, In Iceland, Arthur is met by an old enemy.
The Story: The final chapter of this series is a direct tie-in to the upcoming series Aquamen. In it, Thomas delivers an emotionally drawing narrative that introduces Jackson Hyde as Aquaman to the world. I was impressed at the way this series wrapped in a manner that was both neat and promising of things to come. This issue completed a story arc, ushered in a new era, and set up conflict for new saga in a manner that was neither rushed nor awkward. My compliments to Thomas and the entire creative team.
The Art: This issue uses modern drawings in a traditional design. The aquatic color work and detailed drawings do an amazing job at portraying the underwater world of the story. There are some excellent battle scenes in this piece and the attention to character expression and form are extremely engaging and transportive.
