The Rundown: The search for the missing princess puts everyone on edge and Orm sees a chance to move his plans forward.

The princess is missing and Arthur’s first instinct is to bring the fight to the city of Dagon and the throne of his brother Ocean Master. After fighting his way to the throne, Orm convinces him that he does not have the princess and puts the suspicion on someone close to both Arthur and Mera.

At the same time, Caillie and Jackson continue to search Amnesty for the child and their frustration continues to grow to the point of lashing out at the gods gathered for their lack of action. Jackson’s mother tries to comfort her son and her conversation leads him to search for the mech that attacked Amnesty and the AI of his grandfather. Utilizing the systems of the wrecked device, Jackson is led to seek out the one person who might be able to help him. To make matters worse, the princess’ kidnapper returns to her master after depositing the child in an unknown location.

The Story: Kelly Sue DeConnick raises both the stakes and the tension in this issue. Suspicion falls everywhere and Arthur’s desperation is palpable. DeConnick expertly weaves powerful emotion into this issue along with the mystery. Everything works well from Arthur’s attack to the reveal of the kidnapper. Even the twist at the end with Jackson was pitch perfect in relation to the story and its emotions. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Art: Robson Rocha beautifully renders both the characters and the undersea atmosphere. There is a beautiful sense of scale and scope to the panels and the characters are wonderfully expressive. The final pages are amazing and the final image was thrilling.
