In part 4 of the Venom Inc. storyline, Spider-Man stops a truck hijacking in the Meat Packing District only to steal the truck himself because he is under the influence of the Lee Price’s symbiote army. Meanwhile, Flash in his new Anti-Venom suit is being put into an elaborate, supervillain trap by Price and his henchmen. As Price leaves (naturally) to begin the next phase of his plan, he feels a presence that he can’t quite trace.
It turns out that presence is Mania herself, who has come to New York to reclaim her symbiote from Price. She manages to rescue Flash and the two of them go after Spider-Man. Dr. Steve returns to his apartment to find it inhabited by both Eddie Brock, who has reclaimed the Venom symbiote and Black Cat, who both want something from the doctor.
Peter delivers the stolen truck to Price and is given a new mission. He crashes the offices of the Daily Bugle and demands that the staff write about what he’s doing and that he’s working for Black Cat. Robbie and the rest of the staff know that Spidey is under some kind of mind control and refuse. This gives Mania and Flash just enough time to track him down.
As Peter continues to fight his friends and Lee Price makes his next move, it might just take the intervention of Eddie Brock to save Spider-Man and his friends.
This temporary diversion from the “Fall of Parker” storyline is fine. I enjoyed the Venom Inc arc for the most part and this part of it was a fun read. It was nice to have a moment where Peter had to deal with another sin from his past instead of the demons of his present. That being said, I am unsure if there could be a satisfactory ending for this storyline that will satisfy everyone involved. I know there are people who want Flash to get the symbiote back and others who like having Eddie Brock back as Venom. Someone’s going to be disappointed at the end of this story. I wonder who it will be and that’s definitely a positive working in this arc’s favor.
