The standalone Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix is gearing up to begin production and the producers are assembling an impressive cast.
Today there is word that another member of the cast has been announced and this new cast member will be taking on an established DC Comics character.
According to Deadline, Alec Baldwin (Mission Impossible: Fallout, Blackkklansman) will be joining the cast of the Todd Phillips directed Joker film and he will be playing the role of Thomas Wayne. Warner Brothers has neither confirmed nor denied the news. Thomas Wayne is the wealthy doctor/philanthropist who uses his family fortune to try to help the citizens of Gotham City. After leaving the theater with his wife Martha and their young son Bruce, Thomas and Martha are killed by criminal/hitman Joe Chill. The resulting trauma causes young Bruce to train his body and mind until he becomes the vigilante known as Batman.
How Thomas Wayne will interact with Phoenix’s Joker is unknown, but the Wayne’s philanthropy does get the attention of the criminal underworld of Gotham and Joker is said to be playing a mob enforcer in the origin film.
Baldwin will join Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond in the Joker film which is slated to start shooting September 10th.
