The Rundown: Nora’s new pet changes her life in ways she could never imagine.
Nora’s academic and personal life are not anywhere close to where she wants them before her parents bring home a new friend in the form of a dog named Janie. With her confidence boosted, Nora comes out of her shell and begins to live the life she always dreamed of. Unfortunately, she doesn’t notice the increase in animal deaths in the area.
One night, she sees what Janie really is and she decides to help her new friend craft a device that will take her home. She just has to contend with a mystery man following them and what Janie needs to fuel her trip home.
The Story: Like their film work, Benson and Moorhead do a great job of creating a new and interesting world filled with interesting characters and surprises. The story has some wonderful narrative twists throughout and I was surprised by both the plot and how engaging Nora is as a character. Her journey is compelling and the story has a great twist ending that makes me want more.
The Art: Hinkle delivers a beautifully distinctive and stylized visual experience. The characters look great. The horror elements are visually scary and I love the distinctive way Janie is depicted in relation to the other characters.
