The Rundown: In the penultimate battle for the fate of the Earth, Superman will get some much needed help from a new team of heroes.
Young Justice has made it to Metropolis in order to meet Superman. When the Man of Steel arrives, he doesn’t have time to meet and greet, especially with Conner. The Legion of Doom has attacked and it is all hands on deck as Superman recruits the young heroes to help civilians evacuate the area before enlisting Superboy to help him engage the Legion in what is an obvious trap.
As he and Conner take on the Legion, the villains were unprepared for the might of two Kryptonians and the Justice League comes in to help. Unfortunately for them all, Leviathan has other plans that neither Superman nor Luthor know are about to be unleashed.
The Story: There is a lot of great action in this issue and Bendis does a great job of incorporating the new heroes into the story. I liked that the Superman/Superboy dynamic was handled the way it was and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic evolves in the wake of this story. The dialogue is great and plays on the immediacy of the story and its action. There are some plot issues that didn’t transfer from the previous issue including the Red Cloud arc and that needs to be resolved. A solid issue on its own, but has issues with its connection to the bigger story.
The Art: John Romita Jr does some great work with the action in this issue. The biggest visual issues are with the character moments. There are moments that lack definition as well as focus so they look flat instead of immersive.
