The Rundown:
Leviathan has taken out the most powerful spy agencies in the world and Superman finds himself fighting the unknown creature responsible. At the same time, Lois reveals herself to her Spyral contact and he gives her everything that he has on the organization with a mandate to release everything and bring all the secrets into the light.
When the pair catch up with each other, Lois and Clark make their way back to the fortress to find Amanda Waller has fled and their investigation getting hotter when Superman discovers that while all the agencies were destroyed, there were no bodies recovered from the wreckage.
It’s a race against time as Lois gets her story together to publish. At the same time, her father gets an unexpected visitor in the hospital and Manhunter goes on the run after being framed for a crime she didn’t commit.
The Story:
Brian Michael Bendis has captured and held my interest with this issue. The story is going in some interesting and intriguing directions with a pace and story I can’t predict. Something I enjoy as a reader. The investigative parts of the story are handled exceptionally well and the story moves with a sense of purpose as it rolls into the bigger event to come. What makes this story so compelling is that it continues to boil down to an investigation that is going to take the skills of Clark Kent before the power of Superman.
The Art:
Beautiful, detailed and dynamic art from Steve Epting in this issue. There is a classic, but timely feel to the character designs and the progression of the panels is amazing.
