Clandestine and secret organizations are being wiped out left and right. Amanda Waller has barely escaped with her life and she’s turned to the last person in the world that anyone would think of, Superman.
After spiriting her away from their home to his new, secret Fortress of Solitude, Superman and Lois wait for Waller to wake up in order to get answers. With the DEO is shambles, Superman goes to check on Lois’ father Sam and finds that someone is already keeping an eye on him. Clark is relieved to find out that there is a detective on the case and The Question has questions of his own for Lane and the Kryptonian.
With his avenues of investigation closing and unable to find both Ras Al Ghul or Batman, Lois and Clark decide that the best thing they can do is dust off their old undercover Spyral personas in order to get some answers from the inside.
In a storyline filled with intrigue and mystery, this issue really fell flat. Brian Michael Bendis has crafted an interesting new story for Superman in this series, but this issue is a divergence from everything interesting that is being built to challenge the man of steel. The humor feels forced and all of the interesting story beats in the issue don’t go anywhere.
Steve Epting’s art is really good. If he was given more interesting plot moments to render, the art would be more dynamic.
