Leviathan strikes and they are targeting every covert, clandestine and intelligence gathering organization in the DC universe.

Kobra has already fallen, Amanda Waller is on the run after Checkmate gets taken out and Adam Strange has been called in by the DEO to help out while Supergirl is off-world. When a strange creature materializes in the middle of the room, Strange is barely able to get away with some of the staff before the DEO explodes.

Waller goes to a clandestine meeting in a local theater with General Lane to discuss the losses they are suffering. Lane begins to soften his stance on heroes after what Lois tells him and when they both discover that neither one of them called the meeting, another attack levels the theater.

Lois Lane makes her return to the Daily Planet and her first day back is filled with drama. Jimmy Olsen is paranoid about what he witnessed and when he finally tells Lois and Clark what he discovered, the couple get an uninvited guest with an ominous message.

Brian Michael Bendis is creating an interesting story with Leviathan. After taking Superman to outer space for the last arc, bringing him back to Earth with this one is a welcome change. The story is intriguing and Bendis is providing some interesting and engaging dialogue for the characters. What also works for this arc is utilizing Superman’s supporting cast effectively. Giving Jimmy and others a reason to be a part of the story enhances Superman’s world and gives the story higher stakes.

The art by Steve Epting is really good. There isn’t a lot of action in this story, but that doesn’t stop Epting from doing great work with the action that is present. There are great character details throughout the book and the tone of the story is perfectly matched with the art.
