The Rundown: On the high seas of the Caribbean, pirate Anne Bonny will face not only a British governor bent on revenge, but a crew not keen on having a woman on board.
It’s 1720 and the pirate ship of Captain Calico Jack Rackham is locked in battle with a British ship. As the crew is overrun, Calico Jack and his crew prepare to take the spoils with a last minute rescue from Anne Bonny, the only female on board the ship. After taking everything valuable, Anne leaves no survivors. What none of them know is that a stowaway sneaks on board with an interesting secret.
At the same time, Governor Rogers has a plan to take down Calico Jack and his crew. A plan that will hinge on members of the crew betraying their leader. A prospect that becomes a lot easier when Anne defends the captured stowaway and shows the men how tough she can be.
The Story: A fun, entertaining adventure that introduces some new and interesting characters. Stephanie Phillips crafts an engaging story that promises some interesting, action packed drama to come. Anne is a well done character that benefits from great dialogue. Calico Jack seems interesting as well and I am interested more in seeing the power dynamics play out between the two of them and the rest of the crew.
The Art: Cermak delivers some beautiful art throughout this issue. Not only is the action great to witness, but the character designs are fantastic as well.
